Counselor- in-Training Program

The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program provides young teens (12 – 15 years old)  the opportunity to develop skills as leaders in a creative and safe environment. The CIT’s are offered a diversity of activities which allow them to expand their abilities and broaden their horizons in preparation to becoming counselors with the Children’s Arts Institute or other camp programs.

LOCATIONS AND DATES


Los Angeles Campus

Westland School, 16200 Mulholland Dr., Los Angeles, CA 90049
Session 1: June 25 – July 13, 2012 (3 weeks) No Camp July 4
Session 2: July 16 – August 10, 2012 (4 weeks)

Valley Campus
Children’s Community School. 14702 Sylvan St., Van Nuys, CA 91411
Session I: June 25 – July 20, 2012 (4 weeks)  No Camp July 4
Session 2: July 23 – August 17, 2012 (4 weeks)

Hours: 8:00am–3:45pm
Days: Monday–Friday

REQUIREMENTS

Meetings/Training: Attend a 2 hour training & orientation session approximately 1 week prior to camp.
Daily: Assist in workshops. Help supervise younger campers.
Open Houses: Help set-up and attend our exhibit/performance nights at the end of session.

Cost: This is not a job, but a camp program we offer for junior teens. Parents pay 50% of camp tuition to have their child attend the program.  Participating in the program does not guarantee future employment with CAI but references will be provided for those that successfully complete the program.


DAILY SCHEDULE
8:00 AM — Arrive at camp
8:00-8:15 AM — Morning jobs
8:15-9:00 AM — Supervise campers, assist around camp
9:00-10:15 AM — Assist with morning block of classes
10:15-10:45 AM — Snack and Play break for campers
10:45-11:45 AM — Continue assisting and participate in morning block.
11:45-12:45 PM — Lunch, lunch jobs, supervise campers
12:45-1:45 PM — Assist in a workshop
1:45-2:15 PM — Afternoon Break for campers
2:15-3:15 PM — Assist in a workshop
3:15–3:30 PM — Assist during parent pick-up
3:30-3:45 PM — End of day jobs
